How do I help my child learn to pick just-right books for herself/himself?

–Have the student read a page in a book you are considering.  Count one hand how many words they miss, confuse or have to have read to them.  If they miss 5 or more, the book is too hard for them to read independently at this time.  You may want to consider reading it aloud to your child, but your child needs to read at the just-right level to truly grow as a reader. (It is okay for them to read “holidays” or easy books that they love occasionally, too!).
