Time has flown by and we are finally settling in here!  Life will never be the same now that our sweet boy is home but it is a good thing.  Colin is a funny, active, smart, strong, active(yes, I think I should say this twice because he is VERY active!), loving little boy and we are blessed to have him in our lives!

He loves books and I will try to do better at sharing some of his favorite books (and Mama’s) starting this month!

Sorry for the long absence as we all worked at becoming a family!

We are busily preparing for our trip to Russia to finalize our adoption of our little boy!  This book is one I am taking with us for our sweetie’s first airplane ride: That’s not my plane.   The book is one of the newest in the Usborne “That’s not my…” series of touchy-feely books for children 9 months old to 3 years-old.  I look forward to distracting our son with this book as we prepare for take off.  Being on planes can be a scary experience for first-time flyers–especially children who have never flown.  Toys and books that are new to the child can help amuse them during long flights…The pages feature lots of textures to feel and simple text for me to read.  There is also a white mouse for baby to look for on each doublespread of pages.

Whether your destination is a real place or whether you are just soaring together on the wings of imagination, I hope you will choose this book for your next flight with a little one!:)

Parents, avoid hearing the age-old complaint, “There’s nothing to do!” The Usborne Book of KnowHow is the ultimate guide for bored boys and girls aged 6 years old and up who are embarking on their summer vacation at home. It combines 6 different KnowHow books from Usborne into one incredibly sturdy hard back edition.

The book includes how to’s on magic tricks, disguises, being a spy, arts and crafts projects, and science experiments. Check it out at this link:

I believe that an excellent way to teach children about healthy eating is by having them help in the kitchen from a young age. The Healthy Cookbook could serve as a helpful tool for teaching your child how to read and follow instructions from age 9 and up. The cookbook includes a simple explanation of the food groups and how many servings of each we should eat every day. Basic cooking/food preparation tips are also included in this cookbook that could easily be a staple of any kitchen. The cookbook features lots of illustrations and steps described with super-simple wording to make it child’s play (with adult supervision as needed). Most of the recipes include possible variations which is useful since many children are picky eaters. The pages lay out flat thanks to the spiral binding format.

Another idea for teaching your children to prepare (and eat) healthy foods is the set of 30 Healthy Things to Cook and Eat. Each of the cards is made out of extra sturdy cardboard (think baby board books) which are made to last. I love love all the ideas for healthy foods and the reading level is a little bit lower than the Healthy Eating Cookbook so your children who are 6-9 years old can read it with less help from mom or dad.

I hope you will invite one or both of these kid-friendly cooking guides into your family today! Your tummies will thank you :)
